The Upstairs Art Gallery is a not-for-profit community art gallery, governed by the Titirangi Community Arts Council (TCAC), funded partly by the Auckland Council and charged with promoting arts at the local level.

The TCAC was established in 1978 by the Arts Guild, and were the original force behind the acquisition of Lopdell House as an arts centre, and the establishment of the Lopdell House Society.  We continue to support community arts projects within the Auckland area (although mainly in the West).

… We’re a respected and valued community resource.

We run up to 12 exhibitions per year, representing community arts and emerging artists. We host solo and group exhibitions as a platform for emergent artists along with community competitions and co-ordinate a minimum of 2 member shows each year, which includes a very popular ‘cash and carry’ Xmas show.

… We draw visitors from all over Auckland with our exhibitions and our evening opening celebrations.

Along with a growing visitor rate (currently around 1800 per month), we’re supported by financial members, Facebook fans, a large website audience, and we maintain a very active dialogue with our large database.

As our mission statement demands - our events involve local schools, health groups and the general community ranging in age from 2 – 102, and covering all skill levels from the self-taught to the well-schooled.

… We’re inclusive and we ensure everyone belongs.

We are open from 10am-4pm, 7 days per week, operating with a staff of two part-time Gallery Managers, our gallery co-ordinator and  a great team of volunteers. Governance is by way of a board of a maximum of 10 members.

… We have terrific community support – support that walks the talk!
