Beyond Language - presented by the SALT group of Artists

Opens Thursday 2nd August (6-8pm), on display until Sunday 26 August 2012
Exhibiting artists; Ann Palmer, Cheryl Young, Denise Murphy, Jayne Thomas, Liz Wilkinson and Mary Botica
Artists use a visual language to express an idea, a mood or narrative. For the artist it is the making and the process of creating the work that expresses what words cannot and the end result is a visual language unique to the maker.
SALT is a group of artists who gather together each week to explore their creative passions. Most of the artists either live in or have links with the west, have some degree of tertiary art training and find working in this artist community a rewarding experience. They take a contemporary approach working with traditional materials (and some not so traditional) and are happy to embrace the accidental if it occurs in the process. They believe it is as much about the process of making and experimentation as it is about the outcome.

Energy & Emotion - Rachel Mooney
Opens Thursday 9th June (6-8pm), on display until Sunday 3rd July 2011
In conjunction with the Auckland Festival of Photography.
This exhibition is a foray into Rachel's passion for New Zealand's inspiring native bush, and their beauty and form.
Work from her Night Photography series conveys this through the natural process of time-lapse photography, which is done at night when all available daylight is gone, each image is taken over a period of time, and records the motion of stars, clouds and any moving light.
She includes work from her Symmetry in Motion series. Abstracts are Rachel's way of painting with the camera, the blending of nature is done with her own technique at the time of exposure, which is similar to a short time-lapse exposure with motion in daylight, not with photoshop … and is about nature’s own incredible texture and symmetry.

I Always Knew You Were Tomorrow - Boe Busch
Opens Thursday 27th AUGUST 2009 6 - 8pm until Sunday 20th SEPTEMBER 2009
A series of paintings exploring how we reconstruct and recollect our memories by recent graduate Boe Busch "Once a moment has passed there is no ‘true’ record of what actually happened. What remains is our own subjective account of the feelings, colours, words and significance of those events. Every time we recollect these memories, we re create our past experiences and so eventually through time (and perhaps overuse) they can become static like a painting. I am interested in creating paintings and drawings that comment on this phenomena and inspire the viewer to delve back into their own memories." Boe will be at the Gallery every Sunday afternoon during the exhibition.

Terry Prince – Roads West
Thursday 18th SEPTEMBER 6 – 8pm until Sunday 12th OCTOBER 2008
A breathtaking collection of large acrylic paintings of the Waitakere Ranges and the West Coast - especially created for this exhibition. “It seems today that Artists are expected to make a statement in their work and that if some obscure meaning or statement can’t be found, the work is not complete. My subject needs nothing of the sort because it speaks for itself. To me the Waitakere ranges and the West coast make the grandest, wildest statement one could wish for and I find constant delight in trying to capture their ever changing moods. I like to find large vistas and the colours necessary to create pictures that will draw the viewer in, then paint in a way that will convey feeling, not necessarily detail. This collection is the result of driving and walking for miles in all different weathers and light. It is a privilege for me to share my view of the place I call home” - Terry Prince
