Lukasz Ograbek

Lukasz Ograbek is not afraid to say it how he feels;

“The idea for this series was born when I saw a three colour veneer panel installation costing a small fortune a while back, coated with “hand ground gesso, rabbit skin glue, unicorns horn oil” and more otherworldly mixtures. It was so soulless, numbing and generic, mainstream orientated, not forgetting to mention that Mondrian did it and so much better.

The whole thing created a revolt in my brain and heart!

As the universe unravelled itself by pure chance, within a week I came across a set of 20 or so veneer doors from a 1940s kitchen. I had to take this opportunity to prove a few points.”

2018 EEA Event: JOHN SCOTT - Discussion on Empathy

As part of the 10th Annual Emerging Artist Awards, John Scott, Chairman of the The Upstairs Gallery BOT will lead a discussion on empathy.

John has a special interest in the area of empathy and will lead an interactive, open discussion.

John completed his accreditation with GENOS in Emotional Intelligence and will explore the concept of empathy in a world where it is becoming a lost quality, introducing ways to increase our empathy for others in our day to day and work lives.

On Death Row - Mark Carter, Craig ‘CPL’ Levers, Brent Courtney + Terry Williams-Willcock

Internationally acclaimed photographers and creatives Mark Carter, Craig ‘CPL’ Levers, Brent Courtney and Terry Williams-Willcock are opening a new gallery exhibit ON DEATH ROW from 13 April – 6 May, 2018 at the Upstairs Gallery, Lopdell House, Titirangi. 

The collaboration unites fine art with a mission of environmental conservation to highlight the beauty of the Waima landscape, the scars it leaves our next generation and the documenting of rare native species as they face extinction from both kauri dieback and industrial development.

Under Southern Skies - Graham Young and introducing Justin Venes

After the success of Graham Young's book Lazy Days the gallery is delighted to showcase new works for a second consecutive book. Quintessentially kiwi, delight in Graham's photorealistic images of old sheds, caravans and beach scenes. New works on display.

Justin Venes is a UK artist who has painted 'as a hobby' using his art as a healing tool for his own mental illness. Strikingly realistic portraits from photographer Steve McCurry as well as a hauntingly beautiful image of a young Maori woman, painted especially for our exhibition. Justin manages to capture the models soul on canvas.
