An exhibition by Russian partners Vladimir Proskurin and Lena Ochkalova.
Lena works in different mediums: oil, acrylic, watercolour and ink. Special features of each medium often enrich the other with a fresh approach and effect. As an example, Lena uses watercolour for plein-air works where effects of layers transparency and free liquid mixing can be later replicated on bigger oil canvases. But watercolour on its own is a great technique which is not frequently exhibited in New Zealand galleries.
It took Vladimir another 10 years to re-discover his love of drawing, sketching and painting. Getting his hands on an iPad and stylus Vlad plunged into drawing using this digital method inspired by his fascination with spaceships from computer games. Drawing in the underground, he experimented with drawings of sci-fi masks, faces and symmetrical shapes. All these drawings capturing his emotions of living in Russia.
