2026-08-14 Chloe & Sylvia Marsters 'Galaxie Petunia'
‘Did you know there is a plant that looks like a Hubble Space photograph? It's a flower you can cradle in your fingers. A purple petunia riddled with star-like speckles. The first time I saw one was at the Domain Wintergardens, an awesome place filled with fascinating shapes and crazy colours. Wandering around there I feel like a god peering into different worlds.
I remember Painted Tongue flowers… and imagined tiny women jumping on their psychedelic petals. I remember a patch of blooming cactus… and imagined dancing in that little desert gazing up at candy-topped spiky spires reaching into the sky.
For a long time the natural world has been inspiring. Mum and Dad would take a tiny me to the Auckland Museum. The Weird and Wonderful exhibits… wet specimen jars and exotic taxidermy… impressed on my growing mind. The learning continued in our home full of books and a different kind of garden. A universe of vibrant flowers crafted in oil-paint, summoned to this world via my clever Mum's careful hands.’ - Chloe Marsters
