Shanti Gore
Shanti Gore is a Wellington-based artist who grew up in the forested neighbourhoods of Titirangi, Auckland. Working across oils, acrylics, watercolours, and linocut printing, her practice is a rich exploration of natural forms, myth, and visual storytelling.
Shanti has been painting and drawing since childhood, but her artistic expression deepened after university when she returned to painting as a form of emotional processing, escapism, and reflection. Deeply influenced by gothic literature and 20th-century illustration, her most meaningful works often carry a slightly unsettling, psychological edge — images that speak to the viewer on both conscious and subconscious levels.
For Shanti, painting is more than visual; it’s a way to communicate what words cannot. Her pieces invite viewers into imagined worlds that blend the poetic with the personal — expressing sensations, symbols, and stories with quiet potency.
A multi-panel glimpse into Shanti Gore’s diverse practice — from reimagined childhood visions of wolves in the Titirangi bush, to reflections on motherhood, spiritual identity, and Aotearoa’s native wildlife. Each piece reveals layers of memory, myth, and mood, brought to life through oil, acrylic, charcoal, and digital reproduction.
