Maria Podskrebko
Awaroa Rd Jewellery
Maria Podskrebko is the artist behind Awaroa Rd Jewellery, a practice rooted in craftsmanship, meaning, and transformation. Based in Laingholm, West Auckland, just a stone’s throw from The Upstairs Gallery, she creates distinctive jewellery using reactive metals like niobium and titanium, often pairing them with vintage gemstone beads that carry a sense of personal history.
Her journey began in 2013, during a period of significant health and life challenges. Seeking a creative outlet to uplift and ground her, Maria discovered jewellery classes at Bush Jewellery Studio in Titirangi. It was an instant connection — one that has since grown into a full-fledged home studio practice. Today, Maria describes her art as a lifelong companion: a quiet source of inspiration, comfort, and joy.
Her work is process-led and deeply personal. She draws inspiration from both her materials and the stories behind her custom pieces — often made for milestones or special occasions. In a world of mass production, Maria’s handcrafted jewellery offers something slower and more intentional: wearable art that empowers, delights, and becomes part of someone’s everyday life.
Blackened niobium and titanium earring with amethyst, garnet, pearl, citrine and fine silver beads, blackened niobium earwires. 3.5cm long.
