Andrew Burns
Andrew Burns is a photographic artist working with alternative process printing techniques, including cyanotype, carbon transfer, and photopolymer methods. Born in Australia, he has lived in Auckland since 2015.
Although he has always been interested in photography, Andrew began taking it more seriously in 2018 after rediscovering his love for film—particularly the slow, methodical, and tactile process of working with a large format view camera. This interest led him to explore alternative photo printing processes, where he continues to experiment and push boundaries.
Andrew’s work is deeply focused on process and craft. He creates physical, tactile photographic objects that engage him in a hands-on way and transform images into tangible forms—using pigment, gelatine, plastic, and other materials applied to surfaces like paper, glass, and metal sheets.
Coffee-toned cyanotype on watercolour paper — a hand-developed photographic print that merges old-world technique with contemporary experimentation.
