Richard McConnochie
RMC
West Auckland painter Richard McConnochie, who exhibits under the name RMC, creates expressive acrylic works that blur the boundaries between abstraction and intuition. Originally drawn to art during his college years, Richard rekindled his practice later in life and now paints prolifically.
Inspired by artists like Jackson Pollock, his pieces often begin with simple motifs and evolve into bold, layered compositions alive with movement and colour. Richard’s connection to The Upstairs Gallery has been instrumental in reigniting his creative path, offering a supportive space to share his ever-growing body of work.
Untitled, acrylic on canvas. This Jackson Pollock–inspired piece explores abstraction through dynamic brushwork and layered colour, channeling spontaneity and emotion on the canvas.
